90 Pfennig is an Oktoberfest beer packaging project created for a German brewery, deeply rooted in Bavarian culture and monetary history. The brand name pays tribute to the historic German currency—in circulation from the 9th century until 2002—and specifically references 1933, the year the price for a one-liter beer was officially fixed at 90 Pfennig.
The visual concept bridges historical coinage with craft brewing. Each label across the core lineup—Bionda, Doppio Malto, and Analcolica—is built around graphic motifs pulled directly from the reverse side of different historic Pfennig coins minted throughout German history.
The series culminates in a Special Edition label designed as a modern reinterpretation of the traditional Bavarian coat of arms. Replacing classic heraldic iconography, the shield is divided into quadrants that combine the individual graphic elements from the coin series into a single, unified crest.
